What is Apple Pay?

  • Apple Pay is a payment service provided by Apple. It enables you to make purchases easily and safely with just your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch or Mac.
  • Make payments with your Apple device in stores, online and in apps with a touch or a glance. You don’t need your card or its details at the time of payment.
  • To use Apple Pay, you need to add your payment card to Apple’s Wallet app.
  • Use Apple Pay wherever you see the contactless symbol or the Apple Pay logo.

General information

The Apple Wallet app in Finnish-language phones is usually ready for use with name Lompakko. The app can be found in the app store with name Apple Wallet.

Apple Wallet is a secure and private digital wallet where you can download and manage not only OP’s Visa cards but also other payment and travel cards, tickets, keys and personal ID documents.

With Apple Pay, you can easily pay in stores, on websites and apps. Use Apple Pay wherever you see either the contactless or Apple Pay symbols.

You need to have

  • an Apple device running iOS 11 or later and including Face ID or Touch ID
  • an Apple ID signed into iCloud
  • OP Visa or OP Duo-card  
  • OP User ID and Digital Agreement
  • or, if you’re aged between 13 and 17, your guardian needs to have OP’s user ID.
  • the latest version of OP-mobile (53.0. or later) if you’re adding a card on OP-mobile.

You can use Apple Pay with devices running iOS 11 or later and which have Face ID or Touch ID. Apple Watch also supports Apple Pay.

Apple Pay works with these devices:

  • iPhone with Face ID
  • iPhone with Touch ID (except iPhone 5S)
  • iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad and iPad mini, with Touch ID or Face ID
  • Apple Watch series 1, 2 or newer
  • Apple Watch (1st generation)
  • Mac with Touch ID
  • Mac introduced in 2012 or later + iPhone/Apple Watch with Apple Pay

With OP Classic, OP Gold, OP Platinum, OP Debit, OP Basic, OP Duo och OP Business Card.

You can also add the OP Business Debit card to Apple Wallet. When adding the card, you need to use a personal customer’s OP’s credentials. Add the card either on OP-mobile or Apple Wallet. If you add it on Apple Wallet, confirm adding the card with OP-mobile.

Note that Apple Pay can’t be set up with an OP Corporate User ID or on OP Business mobile. If your card has been granted only for making deposits and not for making payments, you can’t use Apple Pay with it.

Yes, you can add several cards to Apple Wallet. To iPhone 8 or later and to Apple Watch series 3 or newer, you can add 12 cards. To other devices you can add 8 cards. You can add the same card to several devices.

Note that the combination cards OP Classic, OP Gold and OP Platinum include two cards: both a debit and credit card. If you want to use both cards on Google Pay, you must add them to the service separately. The number of cards that can be added to the service is not limited.

Yes. You can also add to Apple Pay a card that doesn’t have the contactless payment feature.

You must be at least 13 years old to get an Apple ID required for Apple Pay. You also need a Visa or Duo card issued by OP and an Apple device.

Adding an OP card to Apple Pay must be confirmed with OP’s user ID. After you log into OP-mobile, you can add a card to Apple Wallet.

Alternatively, you can add a card on Apple Wallet. In that case, adding the card must be separately confirmed either on OP-mobile or by calling OP Customer Service at 0100 0500 (press 5 for service in English, then press 1 for cards, card payment and invoicing).

If you’re under 18, ask your guardian to call OP Customer Service to confirm your card. Your guardian will be asked to identify themself with their own OP user ID.

If you’re aged between 15 and 17 and have an OP User ID and Digital Agreement signed after 10 December 2020, you can log into OP-mobile and add your card to Apple Wallet yourself. Alternatively, you can add it on Apple Wallet and select OP-mobile as the confirmation method.

No. Apple Pay is free and paying with it is free of charge.

 

 

Enabling Apple Pay

To start using Apple Pay for the first time, go to OP-mobile or Apple Wallet.

OP-mobile 

  • Open OP-mobile and log in.
  • Select the card you want to add to Apple Wallet.
  • Tap Add to Apple Wallet. If your card has both a credit and a debit feature, select which feature you want to add. 
  • If you have several Apple devices (like Apple Watch), select to which device you’re adding the card.
  • Check the card details and accept the terms and conditions.

Apple Wallet

  • Open the app.
  • Tap + to add your card.
  • Scan the card following the instructions.
  • Check the card details and accept the terms and conditions.
  • Confirm adding the card either on OP-mobile or by calling OP Customer Service at 0100 0500 (press 2 for cards and card payment).

When the card is successfully added, you will get a notification and a message on OP-mobile and op.fi service.

 

You can also enable Apple Pay for your Apple Watch. You need to pair your Apple Watch with iPhone.

  1. On OP-mobile: You can enable Apple Pay for your Apple Watch the same way as for your iPhone. Follow the instructions above, under OP-mobile.
  2. Enabling on the Apple Watch app:
  • On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app.
  • Go to the My Watch tab. 
  • Tap Wallet & Apple Pay. 
  • Select the card you want to add or add a new card by following the instructions.
  • Confirm adding the card following the instructions.

To check whether a card is added to Apple Wallet, go to OP-mobile, select the card and tap the Information tab. If the card is added, you will see the Manage on Apple Wallet button.

If the card isn’t added and you can’t complete enabling, check that you have

  • a device supporting Apple Pay
  • a valid OP-Visa or OP Duo card supporting Apple Pay and available for card payments
  • the latest version of iOS, watchOS or macOS
  • an Apple ID signed into iCloud
  • the latest version of OP-mobile (53.0. or later) if you’re adding a card on OP-mobile.

For Apple’s technical support, go to support.apple.com and enter Apple Pay in the search field. 

If needed, call OP Customer Service at 0100 0500 and press 2 for cards and card payment.

When adding a card on Apple Wallet, you can choose to confirm it on OP-mobile or by calling OP Customer Service. If you confirm the card on OP-mobile, please check that you have the latest version of OP-mobile.

If you don’t have OP-mobile or confirming on OP-mobile fails, call OP Customer Service at 0100 0500 and press 2 for cards and card payment. If you’re underage, ask your guardian to call to confirm your card. Your guardian will be asked to identify themself with their OP user ID.

You can also add the OP Business Debit card to Apple Wallet. When adding the card, you need to use a personal customer’s OP’s credentials. Add the card either on OP-mobile or Apple Wallet. If you add it on Apple Wallet, confirm adding the card with OP-mobile.

Note that Apple Pay can’t be set up with an OP Corporate User ID or on OP Business mobile. If your card has been granted only for making deposits and not for making payments, you can’t use Apple Pay with it.

If your card has both a credit and debit feature, you need to choose which feature to add when you enable Apple Pay. Note that you can separately add both features to Apple Pay to use the card features the way you want.

The card or card feature you add first will become your default card on Apple Pay. This means that you will mostly pay with that card. If you want to pay with another card, you can select it when you’re about to pay.

If your card has been added to Apple Wallet before 11.4.2023, the wallet shows a white card (OP Basic, OP Debit, OP Classic), a gold card (OP Gold), a black card (OP Platinum), or a grey card (OP Business Debit). The card’s Credit/Debit feature is visible in the bottom right corner of the card.

If your card has been added to Apple Wallet after 11.4.2023, the default design of the card will be depicted in the wallet. The default design of each OP Visa Card is shown on https://www.op.fi/private-customers/daily-banking/cards/new-look. The card’s Credit/Debit feature is visible in the top right corner of the card. The mobile wallet does not support vertical designs for cards, so the card image will remain horizontal for new designs.

 

 

Use

In stores - You can pay with Apple Pay around the world in all stores that accept contactless payments with Visa or Mastercard -cards.

In online stores and apps - You can use Apple Pay in online stores and apps that accept Apple Pay. Use the Pay with Apple Pay button or Apple Pay as a payment method.

You can use Apple Pay wherever you see the contactless symbol or the Apple Pay logo.

In Föli or Turku Region Traffic, you can now purchase a ticket easily by using Express Travel Mode on Apple Pay. If you enable Express Travel Mode, you don’t need to separately confirm the payment with Touch ID, Face ID or even unlock your phone. To pay, just take your device near the contactless reader. In stores

Face ID: To activate your payment card with your Face ID, double-click the right-hand side button of your iPhone. Then either glance at your iPhone or enter your passcode. Hold the top of your iPhone near the contactless reader until you see a checkmark and Done on the display.

Touch ID: Activate Apple Wallet with Touch ID. Holding your finger on Touch ID, take the top of your iPhone near the contactless reader. The payment is completed when you see a checkmark and Done on the display.

Apple Watch: Take your watch near the contactless reader and double-click the side button of your watch. The payment is completed when you feel the watch’s tap on your wrist.

In apps and on websites

iPhone or iPad: Select Apple Pay as the payment method. Confirm using your Face ID, Touch ID or your device passcode.

Mac, on Safari: Select Apple Pay as the payment method. Pay using your iPhone or Apple Watch.

MacBook Pro: Select Apple Pay as the payment method. Pay using Touch ID on the Touch Bar.

Apple Pay is an easy, quick and safe way to pay in apps and online with a touch or a glance. You don’t need to create an account or separately fill in your details when you pay. Millions of online stores accept payments with Apple Pay.

The contactless reader will notify you when the payment is accepted. On your Apple device’s display too, you’ll see Done after a successful payment. If you pay with Apple Watch, you’ll feel the watch’s tap on your wrist when the payment is completed.

At an online store, you’ll know that your payment went through when you see a notification of an accepted payment. You’ll also get a separate notification of each transaction to your Apple device.

Yes. Follow these steps:

iPhone with Face ID: Double-click the right-hand side button. Tap the your default card when you see it, then tap another card to select it. Glance at your iPhone to identify yourself with Face ID. Then pay by holding the top of your device near the reader.

iPhone with Touch ID: Take your device near the reader but don’t place your finger on Touch ID. Tap your default card when you see it, then tap another card to select it. Place your finger on Touch ID to pay.

Apple Watch: Double-click the watch’s side button. When you see the default card, swipe left or right to select another card. To pay, hold your watch near the reader.

The first card you add becomes your default card. If you add several cards to Apple Pay, OP-mobile will ask you each time whether you want to set the new card as your default card.

If you want to change your default card later, follow these steps:

For iPhone or iPad: Go to Settings - Wallet & Apple Pay - Default Card, and select a new card. On iPhone, alternatively, you can open Wallet, touch and hold a card, then drag it to the front of your cards.

For Apple Watch: On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app. Go to Watch - Wallet & Apple Pay - Default card, and select a new card.

If you have several cards on Apple Wallet, one of them is your default card that will primarily be used when you pay. If you want to pay with another card instead, you can select it when you’re about to pay.

A default card is device specific. It means that your phone and watch may have different default cards.

If you have multiple different OP Visa Cards or combination cards and want to better distinguish them from one another in the mobile wallet, you can delete the cards from Apple Wallet and easily add them via OP-mobile or Apple Wallet. This way, you can see the design of that card in Apple Wallet as according to the new default selection as well as the Credit/Debit feature in the top right corner of the card.

No. You don’t need to have an internet connection to be able to pay with Apple Pay at a store. Payments are executed using the contactless reader’s technology. To see whether the store’s payment reader accepts Apple Pay, look for the contactless symbol.

Apple Pay has the same limits as your card. Your payment must be within your card’s daily spending and withdrawal limits and any usage limits of your account. Whenever you use Apple Pay to make a purchase at a store, your card’s Pre-authorised purchases limit will be checked. Whenever you pay at an online store or in an app, the Online purchases and other distance purchases limit will be checked.

The general limit of 50 euros for contactless payments doesn’t apply to Apple Pay.

To see the payments you’ve made with Apple Pay, you can go to Apple Wallet, the Watch app or OP-mobile.

On Apple Wallet when you tap your card, you’ll see the latest transactions made with the card and the device you’re using at the moment.

If you have enabled Apple Pay for your Apple Watch, you can view transactions on your iPhone’s Watch app. On the Watch app, tap Wallet & Apple Pay. Then tap your card and the Transactions tab.

Under transactions, Wallet shows the preauthorisation amount which may differ from the amount of the final transaction amount. To check the final transaction details, go to your account or credit transactions, bank statement or bill.

On OP-mobile, select your account to see all debit transactions made. To see all credit transactions, select your card.

In Apple Pay payments, a virtual account number created for your device is used instead of your card details. This is also shown in receipts. On the basis of the last four digits of the virtual account number, the transaction can be connected to your card. You can find the virtual account number in the card details in Apple Wallet.
You’ll get a notification of a rejected transaction and the reason for it, if you have enabled card notifications on OP-mobile. If needed, please call OP Customer Service at 0100 0500 and press 2 for cards and card payment. Check the opening hours
When you pay with Apple Pay, you can’t earn or use Plussa points, Plussa money or Plussa benefits.

OP cooperative banks’ owner-customers get Product Protection Insurance for the purchases they pay via Apple Pay with an OP Classic, OP Gold, OP Platinum or OP Duo card.

 

 

Security and safety

Apple Pay is very safe. Your card details won’t be saved to the apps or your device. To send a payment, Apple Pay uses a device-specific number and a transaction-specific code. Apple doesn’t have access to your payment card details and they won’t be given to merchants when you pay.

You will confirm each payment transaction with your device’s Touch ID, Face ID or passcode. It means that only you can pay with your card on Apple Pay. Because you won’t need your card’s PIN when you pay, no one will be able to steal a look at it. You can always be assured that you have your card with you on your device.

Apple Pay is an easy-to use, safe and touch-free payment method. You don’t need to touch the buttons of a card reader or handle cash when shopping. You can enjoy the same card benefits* and protection as when paying with your physical card.

If your phone is lost, unauthorised persons won’t be able to see your card details or pay with your phone. If you lose your card and deactivate it, you can get a new card available to you right away on your phone, if needed.

*Please note that when you pay with Apple Pay, you can’t earn or use Plussa points, Plussa money or Plussa benefits.

Immediately call OP Deactivation Service at 0100 0555 (24/7) and deactivate the card details added to Apple Pay. Note that your physical card doesn’t need to be deactivated in this situation and you can continue using it.
Immediately call OP Deactivation Service at 0100 0555 (24/7) to deactivate your lost card. You can order a new card during the call. It will show on your Apple Wallet right away, and you don’t need to be without a card at all.
No. If your card was lost or stolen and renewed after that, or you received a renewed card that has the same number as your old card, the card details will be automatically updated to Apple Pay.
Yes. Deactivating your card will deactivate it on Apple Pay too and paying with that card on Apple Pay won’t be possible anymore.

When you add a new iPhone to your Apple ID, the card details on Apple Pay will be linked to your new device. However, you do need to confirm adding the cards to Apple Pay. You can do it either on OP-mobile or Apple Wallet.

If you can’t find a card on your new device, you can add it again.

No. When you use Apple Pay, data from you or OP won’t be transferred to Apple. You as the Apple device’s holder are the only one who can see a payment’s details.
Apple Pay is provided by Apple. The cards are issued by OP Retail Customers Plc.
