Insurance for hobby cars and other hobby vehicles

Hobby vehicle maintenance may take hours of time and trouble, so hobby cars and motorcycles are worth insuring against any losses. Please contact our customer service and insure your hobby vehicle not only with motor liability insurance but also hobby vehicle insurance.

A hobby vehicle may be a motorcycle, car or van or a lorry weighing no more than 6,000 kg. Campervans cannot be insured as a hobby vehicle.

For a vehicle to be classed as a ‘hobby vehicle’, it must be at least 20 years old, registered and typically only used for part of the year.

Hobby vehicle insurance provides cover in case of loss or damage

Hobby vehicle insurance covers loss or damage to your hobby vehicle. We recommend the extensive hobby vehicle insurance, which covers not only collision damage but also theft, collision, fire or vandalism losses, for example. Extensive hobby vehicle insurance also covers towing if your trip is interrupted following the vehicle’s fault of damage.

If you have a hobby car or motorcycle more than 25 years old, you can also select limited hobby vehicle insurance. Limited hobby vehicle insurance does not cover damage caused by collision or vandalism, but will still cover, for example, theft and fire losses.

The purchase and renovation of hobby and museum vehicles has often required a lot of money and time, and this is why you should get proper insurance for it.

Buy insurance for a hobby vehicle from customer service

You can buy insurance for your hobby car or other hobby vehicle by contacting our customer service. The price of insuring a hobby car other hobby vehicle is affected by, among other things, the vehicle make, age and value. The price is also affected by, for example, your personal motor liability insurance bonus and the comprehensive motor vehicle insurance and deductible level you chose.

In order to insure your hobby vehicle, we will also need some photos of the vehicle. Four photos of a car are enough: the left side from in from of the car, the right side from the back of the car, the interior seen from the driver’s opened door, and the engine with the bonnet up. Two photos must be taken of motorcycles – one from either side.

Hobby vehicle insurance is now available with the same motor liability insurance bonus you get for your other cars. Any bonus loss in your new motor liability insurance is more moderate than previously. If you have been a safe driver for a long time, you can immediately get bonus cover for your hobby vehicle insurance, meaning that a single loss will not reduce your 80% maximum bonus. The initial bonus for motor liability insurance for hobby vehicle is a 40% provided you have not insured any cars previously.

On the basis of your insurance and claims history accumulated when driving a motorcycle, you can have the same motor liability insurance bonus for all your motorcycles, including your hobby motorcycle. If no insurance history exists, the initial bonus for motor liability insurance is 20%. Each no-claim insurance period increases your motorcycle motor liability insurance bonus by 5% a year.

The comprehensive motor vehicle insurance policies of all hobby vehicles come with a 70% initial bonus. If the comprehensive motor vehicle insurance is valid with Pohjola Insurance for five consecutive years without claims and then you have an accident, a 70% bonus only goes down to 60%, although normally any accident would reduce it by 20%.

As a Pohjola Insurance prime customer you will receive discounts benefits. When you are also an OP cooperative bank owner-customer, you have access to even better benefits and discounts and the bonuses you have received as an owner-customer are used for your insurance premiums.

The insurance is issued by Pohjola Insurance Ltd.
