Consequential Loss Cover – compensation while your vehicle is being repaired

Consequential Loss Cover is an optional form of supplementary cover available for passenger cars, vans and lorries with Super Motor Insurance and motorcycles and campervans with Maxi Motor Insurance. Consequential Loss Cover pays a daily sum in compensation or provides you with a replacement car while your vehicle is being repaired due to a collision, vandalism or similar event.

What is Consequential Loss Cover?

Consequential Loss Cover is an optional form of supplementary cover for our comprehensive motor vehicle insurance policies with the greatest coverage. Consequential Loss Cover is available for passenger cars, vans and lorries with Super Motor Insurance, and motorcycles and campervans with Maxi Motor Insurance. Consequential Loss Cover will help if your journey is interrupted because of a collision, theft, glass damage, or an accident involving an animal.

Has an accident already occurred? See the Pohjola Claim Help instructions below depending on your situation:

Consequential Loss Cover for passenger cars and replacement cars

Consequential Loss Cover for passenger cars provides you with a replacement car for up to 30 days while your vehicle is being repaired due to loss or damage covered by your comprehensive motor vehicle insurance. Such incidents include damage due to collisions, animals, crashes, vandalism, fire, parking, glass and theft. If your car is written off due to loss or damage, Consequential Loss Cover will provide you with a replacement car for a maximum of 14 days. If your journey is interrupted due to a technical fault in your car, Consequential Loss Cover will provide you with a replacement car for a maximum of seven (7) days.

If the loss or damage is not due to a technical fault in your vehicle and you do not need a replacement car while your vehicle is being repaired, you can choose to receive a daily allowance under Consequential Loss Cover for passenger cars for the period of the repair. In such cases, you can receive EUR 50 per day in compensation instead of a replacement car.

When will I be able to start using a replacement car?

Your entitlement to a replacement car will vary depending on the incident of loss or damage.

If your vehicle is no longer roadworthy due to an accident or is no longer in your possession due to theft and you have provided the insurance company with a copy of the report of a criminal offence, your entitlement to use a replacement car can begin from the time when the loss or damage occurred. If your vehicle is still roadworthy following the accident, you will be entitled to use a replacement car when the repair work begins.

If your vehicle is unroadworthy due to a technical fault, you will get access to a replacement car starting from the day on which the fault was discovered. Your right to a replacement car will expire when the fault has been repaired or at the latest on the 8th day since the fault was discovered.

Your entitlement to use a replacement car ends when the work to repair a damaged vehicle has been completed, a stolen car is found, or the aforementioned maximum compensation periods (30 days, 14 days or 7 days) have elapsed. When the entitlement to use the replacement car ends, you must return the car.

Can I choose any replacement car that I like?

If an accident happens and you need a replacement car to use, the following restrictions apply to your choice of replacement car:

  • Consequential Loss Cover covers the costs of hiring a vehicle with standard equipment. The replacement car can be an estate variant of a vehicle in a rental class no higher than C or an equivalent size category, such as a Volkswagen Golf, Ford Focus or Opel Astra.
  • The insurance company is entitled to specify which service provider shall be used to hire the vehicle. If the vehicle is rented from a service provider other than the one specified by the insurance company, the insurance company will pay no more than EUR 50 per 24 hours for the rental costs.
  • The policyholder cannot decide which type of transmission, fuel or gearbox is chosen – these attributes are decided by the insurance company.
  • The policy covers rental costs only when the replacement car is rented in Finland.

Consequential Loss Cover for other vehicles

Consequential Loss Cover under Super Motor Insurance for vans and trucks and Maxi Motor Insurance for campervan and motorcycle includes the option of receiving a replacement passenger car in place of a daily euro allowance (EUR 40 or 90) at the time when the insurance is taken out.

Compensation is paid for a maximum of 30 days for a motor vehicle undergoing repairs. If the motor vehicle has been stolen and is not found, compensation will be paid for a maximum of 30 days. If the vehicle is written off, compensation will be paid for a maximum of 14 days.

You can choose a deductible period of either zero days or three days for your vehicle’s Consequential Loss Cover. Please note that if you choose a deductible period of three days, the daily compensation will only be paid from the beginning of the fourth 24-hour period.
