This is what the FirstVet online veterinary service can do for you
It’s advisable to register to the FirstVet service directly after purchasing the insurance. This way help is always close at hand, if your dog is injured or falls ill.
1. If you have any concerns over your cat’s health, always contact the FirstVet online veterinary service first.
2. With the FirstVet service, you can consult a vet remotely by means of a video call even during the same day.
3. The online vet will give you an evaluation of the cat’s state of health and instructions for further treatment, if necessary. If no further measures are needed, you will get clear instructions for home care.
4. If FirstVet’s online vet recommends a visit to a veterinary clinic for further treatment, we recommend that you book an appointment with our veterinary clinic partner.

Vet clinic partners for the benefit of your cat
If your cat falls ill or is injured and requires treatment, you can go directly to our veterinary clinic partner. Our partner will provide the care your cat needs, and you do not have to make a loss report afterwards.
Our partner will take care of filing a claim for you at the clinic. At the clinic, you only pay the deductible in accordance with your Cat Insurance, and the clinic will invoice Pohjola Insurance for the remainder of the fee.

What does cat insurance cover?
In its most comprehensive form, Cat Insurance covers veterinary expenses, examinations and medication prescribed by a vet. With the insurance, you can take your cat to the best treatment without worrying about high costs.
You can select three different covers for your cat insurance:
- Medical treatment expenses insurance covers treatment expenses without an upper age limit if your cat is sick or injured. The insurance covers, for example, laboratory tests, X-ray and ultrasound scans, medication prescribed by a vet and dental care resulting from an accident or illness.
- Animal Insurance for a pedigree cat pays compensation according to the cat’s value if your cat dies or is lost.
- Animal liability insurance covers loss or damage caused by your pedigree cat to a person outside the family.

Insurance for kittens and adult cats
Cat insurance can be taken out for a kitten that is at least six weeks old. With insurance against unpleasant surprises, it is safe for a curious little kitten to explore its environment.
By buying insurance for a cat that is young and healthy and choosing 3,000 euros as the maximum insurance compensation, you get the most extensive cover for your cat.
Cat insurance can also be purchased for an adult cat that is up to 7 years old. Medical treatment expenses insurance provides cover for your cat in case of illnesses and accidents throughout its life. Please note that liability insurance and death cover included in cat insurance expire after your cat turns 10 years old.
Cat insurance covered veterinary expenses
Veterinary expenses for Viiru the cat were 600 euros. The visit to the veterinarian was the first for the insurance period, so the deductible was 70 euros. The remaining amount was 530 euros, from which you pay a coinsurance of 40% or 212 euros. You pay a total of 282 euros for the visit to the vet, and Pohjola Insurance covers the remainder of 318 euros.
If Viiru is taken to a veterinarian again during the same insurance period, you only pay 40% of the veterinary expenses. The deductible of 70 euros is only paid once during the insurance period.

How much does cat insurance cost?
The price of cat insurance depends on the scope of the insurance cover you have chosen, the details of the cat and your home municipality. Among other things, the age and breed of the cat, the deductible you have chosen and the maximum compensation affect the price.
As a Pohjola Insurance prime customer, you also get a discount on cat insurance. If you are an OP cooperative bank owner-customer, you also get an additional discount and can use OP bonuses to pay insurance premiums.
Submitting a health declaration for your cat is easy online
Cat insurance is granted on the basis of the animal’s state of health. Submitting a health declaration is easy at op.fi.
Cat insurance can often be granted even if the cat is not fully healthy. The decision whether or not to grant the insurance is always based on information you give in the health declaration.
Cat insurance covers the medical treatment expenses of accidents and illnesses. If the illness began before the insurance was purchased, the treatment expenses are generally not covered.
Is cat insurance valid outside Finland?
Cat insurance cover is valid throughout the Nordic countries. The insurance is also valid temporarily, for a maximum of 12 months, in other EU countries, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. You can expand the territorial limits of medical treatment expenses and animal insurance by contacting our customer service team.
