Use of OP-Visa Electron cards ends

You will automatically get a new card

The international card company Visa will discontinue Electron cards at the beginning of 2024. This means that the use of OP’s Visa Electron cards will end at the same time.

All OP-Visa Electron card users will automatically get a new replacement card between 2021 and 2024.

If you have an OP-Visa Electron card, we will send you a new payment card well in advance before the expiry of your current OP-Visa Electron card.

You can check your card’s validity on the front of the card. For example, if your card will expire in April 2021, it shows on the card in the form 04/21.

The card fee will remain the same - your card's PIN will remain unchanged

So, the next time your Electron card expires, you will automatically get a new card that replaces Electron. Your card’s PIN will remain unchanged.

The card’s fee will not change due to the card change. The Plussa feature, if any, and spending and withdrawal limits will remain the same as in your Electron.

OP Basic and OP Debit cards to replace the Electron cards

OP Debit and OP Basic debit cards will replace the Electron cards. They have no credit feature.

Which one you will get depends on your situation. For example:

All those under the age of 18 will get an OP Basic card as a replacement for the Electron card.
The users of Electron without any contactless payment feature will get the OP Basic card without the contactless payment feature.
Those aged over 18 years who have a card with a contactless payment feature will get an OP Debit card.

You’ll get more information before your card’s validity expires

When the validity of your Electron card is about to expire, we will inform you of the change and your new card by a message from OP digital services or by letter. Until that time, you can continue using your Electron card as usual.

What features do the cards have? – How do the cards differ from each other?

OP Debit

OP Debit is a debit card. When you use the card for paying in a store or withdrawing cash, it will certify that your account has sufficient funds and will perform preauthorisation. If, for example, you pay for a purchase onboard an aircraft, in a public transport vehicle or at a parking pay station, no preauthorisation hold can be made but you can still pay with your card. You should therefore ensure that your account has sufficient funds.

The card has a contactless payment feature.

The card is suitable for all those aged over 15 years.

OP Basic

OP Basic is a debit card. It works in the same way as Electron, i.e. it always certifies that your account has sufficient funds and makes a preauthorisation hold. This means that you can’t pay with the card if your account doesn’t have sufficient funds or if there is no connection to the bank. For example, you can’t pay for purchases onboard an aircraft because the payment can’t be certified through the web.

The card has a contactless payment feature but you can also get the card without it.

OP Basic is particularly suitable for children over 7 years of age as their first card.

OP-Visa Electron

OP-Visa Electron is a debit card. Every time you pay with your card, it certifies that your account has sufficient funds. This means that you can’t pay with the card if your account doesn’t have sufficient funds or if there is no connection to the bank via the web. For example, you can’t pay for purchases with Electron onboard an aircraft because the payment can’t be certified. Electron cards often have a contactless payment feature.

Visa will discontinue Electron cards at the beginning of 2024. This means that the use of OP’s Visa Electron cards will end at the same time. It is no longer possible to order new Visa Electron cards.

All OP-Visa Electron card users will automatically get a new replacement card between 2021 and 2024.
