Do you suspect that you have fallen victim to fraud or that your information has fallen into the wrong hands?

Here’s how to act if you think that a fraud has been committed against you or that your personal information has been obtained by an unauthorised person.

What to do in case of an internet fraud

1. Contact our Customer Service immediately if you suspect that you have fallen victim to an internet fraud and the information that has fallen into the wrong hands includes all or part of your OP's user ID or your payment card number.

  • Customer service for private customers 0100 0500
  • Customer service for corporate customers 0100 05151

If the Customer Service is not open, deactivate your user ID by calling OP Deactivation Service 0100 0555 (24/7). Be sure also to call the Customer Service during service hours to report the incident.

Also notify our Customer Service if you have lost your personal ID document or a copy of the document.

2. Report a criminal offence if you know or suspect that someone has used your personal or banking details.

3. Follow the instructions you receive from the authorities.

4. Monitor your account and card transactions and contact the bank if you notice any transactions that you have not initiated yourself. Abuse and fraud may come out with delay.

5. Be wary of any contacts from unknown persons, whether by phone or email. Bear in mind that the bank, the police or any other reliable party will never request you to tell them your OP's user ID or passwords.

Report an internet fraud, such as a suspicious email or web page

If you suspect that you have received a phishing email sent on behalf of OP or see an abnormal notification or suspicious view on the op.fi service, please report the incident to us. You can send the report by email  to tietoturvailmoitukset@op.fi.

Include the following information in the report:

  • Your name, contact details, and the name of your OP cooperative bank.
  • The suspicious email message, preferably as an attachment. The email message can usually be saved by selecting “Save As” from the File menu.  You can add the saved file as an attachment to your email.
  • If you have visited a suspicious website and, for example, taken a screenshot or stored the source code of the page, you can add these to your report.

We will not reply in person to messages sent to the information security email address; you will receive an automatic reply for your report.

What to do in case of falling victim to identity theft

There may be reason to suspect identity theft, for example, if you receive bills for products or services that you have not ordered.

1. Contact our Customer Service immediately if the leaked information includes all or part of your OP's user ID or your payment card number.

2. Report the offence to the police.

3. If you suspect that any of your passwords has fallen into the wrong hands, change it in all the services where you use it. Use different passwords for different services.

4. Enable two-factor authentication in all services that offer it.

5. Consider placing a voluntary credit ban on yourself. With the credit ban, you can restrict the taking out of new loans in your name. The credit ban is subject to a fee. You will receive a separate note indicating your creditworthiness despite the voluntary credit ban. However, bear in mind that not every service provider checks customers’ credit records when making contracts such as hire purchase agreements.

Also remember insurance cover

If you fall victim to a crime, remember the legal expenses insurance included in the home insurance. Contact your insurance company when the pre-trial investigation of the crime has ended and the matter is submitted for legal proceedings.

The legal expenses insurance included in Pohjola Insurance’s home insurance also covers the costs of legal representation and court proceedings in the event of identity theft.

The OP Platinum and OP Duo cards include identity theft protection, which helps to identify the harm caused by identity theft.
