Does pet insurance cover: Your dog’s ear infection?

Katri is spending a peaceful autumn evening at home with her beloved dog Diego. During the evening, Katri notices how Diego while playing on the floor shakes his head for some reason and rubs his ears against the corner of the living room sofa. Katri takes Diego on her lap for closer inspection and notices that the skin on the inside of the dog’s ears is red. Katri books Diego an appointment with a FirstVet online veterinarian, who says that Diego probably has an ear infection in both ears. The infection can’t be treated at home this time, so an appointment is made for Diego to see a vet. The vet cleans Diego’s ears and prescribes medication to clear up the ear infection.

Decision: The costs arising from the ear infection are compensated under the dog’s medical treatment expenses insurance that Katri has chosen as part of Pohjola Dog Insurance

Does pet insurance cover: Your cat’s disappearance?

The Huhtala family’s pedigree cat Viiru is used to wandering freely in the backyards of their residential area, while always returning home when he feels like it. One summer evening, however, the cat is neither seen nor heard. The Huhtalas wait for their cat to return, but after a few days they come to the conclusion that Viiru may not be coming back. The cat has disappeared. The family reports the cat as missing to the police, but even after a month there is no information about Viiru yet.

Decision: Disappearance of a cat is covered under Animal Insurance, which the Huhtalas have included in Pohjola Cat Insurance

Animal Insurance can also be granted to dogs and pedigree cats. The insurance covers the death, disappearance or theft of your pedigree cat or dog until the age of 10, or if your pet is not found within one month. Animal Insurance also covers if your animal has to be put down because of severe and continuous pain.

The police must be informed without delay of the disappearance or theft of a pet. A copy of the report filed with the police is attached to the loss report concerning the disappearance or theft of your pet.

Does pet insurance cover: Injury to your dog’s paw?

Olivia is on her customary late evening run with her dog Eetu. The pair makes a good pace on a familiar jogging path until Eetu suddenly started whining. Olivia stops and dashes to her dog, who seems to have hurt his paw. In the light of the street lamp Olivia sees that Eetu has a cut on his paw. To her horror Olivia notices fragments of a broken bottle gleaming on the path. These are probably the cause of the injury to her dog’s paw. Olivia takes Eetu to the nearest veterinary clinic, where the paw is bandaged and successfully treated. Eetu is prescribed medication and already after a week the dog returns to the jogging path.

Decision: The costs of the dog’s injury are compensated under medical treatment expenses insurance, which Olivia has chosen as part of Pohjola Dog Insurance.

Does pet insurance cover: Damage by your dog to someone else’s property?

Sami takes his dog Justus out for a walk in the fresh autumn air. While walking along his home street, which has little traffic, Sami decides to let Justus off the leash so the dog can criss-cross the familiar street more freely.  With a little too much confidence, Sami follows Justus while he walks. Suddenly, the dog appears to notice a car parked on a neighbour’s driveway. Sami only has time to glimpse a cat crawling under the neighbour’s car when Justus rushes at full speed towards the car. The dog jumps over the car’s bonnet after the cat, leaving the car scratched. The cat escapes and Sami puts his dog back on the leash.  The neighbour’s car has already been damaged, though.

Decision: The damage is compensated under animal liability insurance, which Sami has chosen as part of Pohjola Dog Insurance.
