If you already have symptoms before leaving, or suffer from a chronic illness, you should consider in advance whether making the trip is sensible and safe.

Travel insurance covers to a limited extent the costs of medical treatment for illnesses that began or showed their first symptoms before the journey. This also applies to treatment for an acute illness in case the related symptoms have begun before the journey. For example, the policy does not cover extra travelling costs or the costs of transport by air ambulance to Finland.
