Enjoy your snowmobile at your leisure
It is easier to enjoy your snowmobile when you do not have to worry about its insurance. A snowmobile’s motor liability insurance and comprehensive motor vehicle insurance are valid throughout the year, so you can start the engine whenever you like. The premiums of seasonally rated insurance policies are automatically lower in the summer than in the winter.
What does motor liability insurance for snowmobiles cover?
A snowmobile’s statutory motor liability insurance covers any of the driver’s or passengers’ personal injuries and any losses caused to an innocent adverse party. To prepare for any damage to your own snowmobile, you should take out comprehensive motor vehicle insurance.
Does a snowmobile need to be insured?
Every motor vehicle used in traffic must have a statutory motor liability insurance policy. This includes snowmobiles. The owner or user of a snowmobile must buy motor liability insurance. Driving in private areas and on a frozen sea, lake or waterway usually falls under the Motor Liability Insurance Act and requires valid motor liability insurance, even for snowmobiles. Uninsured snowmobiles may not be driven even in off-road areas.
Snowmobile insurance covers collisions and theft
You can insure your snowmobile with either Maxi Motor Insurance or Medium Motor Insurance. Maxi Motor Insurance is a comprehensive insurance for a snowmobile, covering, for example, collisions, theft and vandalism.
Medium Motor Insurance is a more inexpensive option if you want your snowmobile insurance to cover, for example, theft and fire losses. This means that you will have to pay for any losses caused by collisions and vandalism yourself.
It’s so easy! My snowmobile insurance is seasonally rated, so I can hop on my snowmobile as soon as the winter arrives!
Snowmobile insurance premiums follow the seasons
Snowmobile insurance is valid throughout the year and priced according to the seasons, the premiums being lower during the summer months than in the winter. This is our way of adjusting the pricing, because snowmobiles are mainly used in the winter. However, comprehensive motor vehicle insurance is important to a snowmobile also in the summer, because it covers, for example, theft and fires also then.
Withdrawing a snowmobile from use
Separate laid-up insurance is not required for a snowmobile, because the price of insurance for a snowmobile is automatically lower during summer than during winter.
Thanks to the seasonal rating, you do not have to decommission your snowmobile for the summer months. And you can hop on your snowmobile as soon as the weather permits, because the insurance is always valid. If you know that you will not use the snowmobile at all during the following winter, you can decommission it and get a refund on the premiums.
You can reduce the probability of accidents by being careful and following the safety regulations.
When not in use, a snowmobile should always be locked or kept inside a locked space. A snowmobile is properly locked when the keys are out of the ignition and the steering lock or the immobiliser is activated. In the absence of such devices, the snowmobile must be locked with a brake lever lock, chain lock or wire lock to prevent unauthorised use.
