Administering a death estate
We sympathise with your loss and are here to assist you with your deceased loved one's banking and insurance matters.
What are the steps of administering a death estate?
Send bills, a power of attorney and other documents to us online
You can send us the following documents on the op.fi service:
- report on family relationships (certificate from the Population Information System)
- power of attorney
- estate inventory deed with appendixes
- bills for payment before the estate inventory.
Use our electronic power of attorney
The easiest way to handle matters with us is for the parties to the death estate to fill in and sign an electronic power of attorney template directly through the op.fi service. You can access the power of attorney also with user identifiers issued by other Finnish banks.
The power of attorney will take effect only when the estate inventory deed has been completed and reviewed. Before the estate inventory, you will need a report on family relationships of your loved one for managing the estate's banking matters.

What will happen to the estate's insurance policies?
There is no rush with insurance matters. You can deal with them at your own pace after the estate inventory. Our information package explains what to do with different types of insurance policies.
