Terminating an insurance policy issued by Pohjola Insurance must be done in writing. Most changes to your insurance policies can be done easily by calling our customer service.

If you want to make changes to your policies, such as naming another beneficiary, changing your comprehensive motor vehicle insurance cover or choosing a new deductible, contact our customer service.

Terminating the insurance can affect your benefits 

Before terminating an insurance policy, please note that you may not be able to purchase a similar policy again. Before terminating, make sure that you do not weaken your insurance cover by terminating a useful policy.

Please also note that terminating an insurance may affect the future coverage of previously suffered losses and the validity, prices and loyalty benefits of your other policies.

How does terminating an insurance policy affect my loyalty discounts?

Terminating an insurance policy can affect your household’s loyalty discounts. You are entitled to a discount if your household has policies from at least three different insurance groups. 

Check the effect on your loyalty discounts by selecting your age group

If you have policies from only one or two insurance groups after terminating the policy, your household is no longer entitled to the 21% loyalty discount for ages 18 to 27 or the possible additional 3% owner-customer discount. If you are not an owner-customer, you also lose the 45% increase in your Extrasure life insurance benefit.
If you have policies from only one or two insurance groups after terminating the policy, your household is no longer entitled to the 7% loyalty discount, possible additional 3% owner-customer discount or the 45% increase in Extrasure life insurance benefit.

If you pay the insurance premium in a single instalment, you get a 2.5% mode of payment discount.
If the instalments on your insurance premium seem too high, you can divide the payments into smaller instalments. You can pay insurance premiums in one, two, three, four, six or twelve instalments at no additional cost. If you want to pay the premium in 12 instalments, you need a valid e-invoice agreement. 

If your finances are tight, you can ask for an extension on your insurance bills 

You can influence the amount of your insurance premium by increasing your deductible. You can change the deductible of comprehensive motor vehicle insurance and luggage insurance online at op.fi. From your insurance policies, select the policy you want and choose Edit the insurance.

How can I terminate my insurance policy online?

You can terminate an insurance policy by messaging us in OP's digital services. In the message, state that you wish to terminate one or several insurance policies. Include the details of all insurance policies you want to terminate. 
 
We need the following information:
  • Names of the policies to be terminated 
  • Policy numbers
  • The date you want the termination to take effect.
 
The termination date of the policy cannot be before the date when the message was sent.
 
As a confirmation of the terminated insurance cover, you will receive the policy document and an updated bill with a new due date. The list of Policies on your OP eServices will be updated following the termination within a few working days. If the insurance has several policyholders, each policyholder must confirm the termination separately in a message to us.
