Wildfires raging in Greece are underway and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland has recommended leaving the fire areas and following the instructions issued by local authorities. As needed, follow the situation on the website of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
For more instructions on how to proceed in a loss situation, visit Pohjola Claim Help. You can claim compensation for expenses incurred due to the wildfire via OP-mobile or the op.fi service.
See the instructions below on how to claim compensation due to losses caused by the wildfires on the Rhodes island.
Journey cancellation
If you had to cancel your journey because of the wildfires on the Rhodes island, you can claim compensation under the Traveller's Crisis Cover included in Pohjola Traveller's Insurance. In certain situations, this cover may compensate expenses resulting from journey cancellation due to a natural disaster. Expenses will be compensated due to cancellation, provided that
- Your travel destination is located in the wildfire area on the Rhodes island which the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland or a local authority has recommended leaving. The wildfires on the Rhodes island are raging in the southern, eastern and central parts of the island in particular.
- The wildfire has an adverse effect on conditions at your travel destination during the planned journey. We are closely following official announcements and the situation on the Rhodes island.
- Your insurance has been valid before the breakout of the wildfire in the travel destination.
- You have booked a journey before the wildfire broke out.
- You have cancelled your journey after the wildfire broke out in the travel destination during the time when the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland or a local authority has recommended avoiding the area.
It is also possible to compensate the journey cancellation under the old OP-Visa Platinum Travel Cancellation Cover if the OP-Visa Platinum cardholder has bought and paid the journey with the Platinum credit feature by 30 April 2023. The card's traveller's insurance changed on 1 May 2023 since when the old type of Travel Cancellation Cover has no longer existed.
Before submitting your compensation claim, cancel the trip with your tour operator or service provider and file a claim for any refunds to which you are entitled.
You can claim compensation for the costs of a cancelled trip via the op.fi service or OP-mobile.
Our other travel insurance products do not cover the costs of cancelling a trip due to conditions at the travel destination. To check whether your travel insurance includes Traveller’s Crisis Cover, see your insurance policy or log into OP-mobile or the op.fi service in the Insurance section.
Evacuation
If you have to leave your travel destination, you can claim compensation for expenses incurred due to evacuation under the Traveller’s Crisis Cover included in Pohjola Traveller's Insurance and the Evacuation Cover included in Corporate Travel Cover. - The Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland or a local authority has recommended leaving the travel destination in the wildfire area on the Rhodes island.
- You comply with evacuation instructions issued by the ministry for Foreign Affairs or another similar authority.
- Evacuation expenses have resulted from evacuation in which you have left the travel destination for Finland or a safe area in the travel destination OR which is necessary for you to continue your journey according to your original travel plan.

- Your insurance has been valid before the breakout of the wildfire in the travel destination.
- You have booked a journey before the wildfire broke out.
