OP First Investment is a real step towards long-term saving and investment for babies and their families.
It makes sense to start early
When a child learns about investing and spending from an early age, they gain a solid foundation for a financially secure future. Financial literacy supports the wellbeing of individuals and society as a whole.
Receive the investment for your child the easy way
You can accept the gift in the op.fi service or at an OP cooperative bank branch. At the same time, you can start monthly investment for your child.
A gift that could grow with your child
OP Financial Group member cooperative banks will make an OP First Investment donation – a 100-euro investment in OP-World Index fund – to every baby born in Finland this year.
This one-off investment of 100 euros could grow over the years. Based on an expected return of 6%, the sum would increase to 285 euros in 18 years.
If you start investing through the fund at the same time (with 40 euros a month, for example) the sum could amount to 15,598 euros by the time the child is 18.
How can I receive OP First Investment?
You can receive OP First Investment within 12 months of the child's birth. You can accept the gift through the op.fi service or by visiting an OP cooperative bank branch. During spring 2025, we will provide more detailed instructions on receiving the gift.

This requires that the child has a Current Account with OP and an OP Savings and Investments Agreement. Both of these are free of charge. The account and agreement can only be activated if the child has a Finnish personal identity code, registered name and a permanent address in Finland.
Parents can receive the gift at any OP cooperative bank branch, even if they are not customers of OP. If you wish to receive the gift digitally via the op.fi service, at least one guardian must have an OP user ID and the other guardian or guardians must have banking IDs from OP or another Finnish bank.
A Current Account can be opened for a child via the op.fi service or at an OP cooperative bank branch.

OP-World Index fund
OP-World Index offers a cost-efficient way of diversifying investments across global equity markets. Thanks to its low fees, OP-World Index is an excellent choice for long-term investment on behalf of a child. It is also a responsible fund that promotes investments with sustainable social and environmental characteristics.
You can also start monthly investing in OP-World Index fund. Monthly investment is an easy way to start investing for a child. You can get started with just 10 euros a month.
Saving and investing for a child
On average, parents save and invest 40 euros per month for their children. By starting early, you could build up thousands of euros by the time your child reaches adulthood.
The 100-euro OP First Investment in OP-World Index fund is taxable income for the child. We will report the received income to the Incomes Register for the child.
A pre-completed tax return is created for all income earners. This means that each child receiving the gift will also get a pre-completed tax return. The tax return will not require any action on your part if you haven't sold any fund units.
Please note that the baby's total income determines whether they must pay tax for each tax year and, if so, how much. If the baby has no income for the year other than the 100-euro OP First Investment, they will not be liable to pay tax under the Finnish Tax Administration's current practices. Please ask the Tax Administration for the latest taxation information.
A child who learns about investing from an early age can achieve a high level of financial literacy, which is likely to continue into adulthood. Financial literacy increases the wellbeing of both individuals and society.
For this reason, we'll make an OP First Investment donation – a 100-euro investment in OP-World Index fund – to every baby born in Finland this year.
You can redeem the fund unit as normal. However, we hope that the gift will encourage babies and their parents to engage in long-term saving and investment.
The assets of a minor (a child under 18) always belong to the child. As the parent of a minor, you act as their guardian and manage their finances.
