Loved one’s banking affairs – I manage banking affairs for a loved one. Can I enable OP Account SMS for their account?

OP Account SMS is a personal service. You can only enable it for your own account. Its purpose is to provide a feeling of control and certainty about one’s own daily finances also to those of our customers who do not use our digital services. If you are managing matters on behalf of a loved one, in this way they too can stay informed of their account.

Obligatoriness of a payment card – Must a payment card be linked to an account in order to start using OP Account SMS?

No, it must not. You can enable OP Account SMS for all of your own accounts. If a payment card has been linked to your account, you will automatically receive notifications of your card transactions too.

Monthly charge and OP bonuses – Can I use OP bonuses to pay the monthly charge for OP Account SMS?

Yes, banking service charges are automatically paid from OP bonuses accumulated by an OP cooperative bank owner-customer.

Loved one with a memory disorder – Is OP Account SMS suitable for a loved one with a memory disorder?

The service is suitable for those who are still capable of managing their daily affairs quite independently. It is good to consider whether your loved one would benefit from the SMSes about account transactions or would they confuse matters.

If your loved one is no longer capable of managing their own daily banking affairs, it may be necessary to consider appointing a legal guardian or representation based on a continuing power of attorney. A continuing power of attorney can be provided well in advance, before the ability to function deteriorates. It may most often be the best and easiest solution for everyone involved.

Unusual card transaction – I received an SMS about a card transaction I do not recognise. What should I do?

The name of the payee shown in the SMS may not always match the name of the place of purchase. If, despite this, there are card transactions you do not recognise, deactivate your card immediately by calling OP Deactivation Service at 0100 0555.

Unusual account transaction – I received an SMS about an account transaction I do not recognise. What should I do?

Contact our customer service or your own OP cooperative bank.

Bank secrecy – How is bank secrecy ensured in the sending of the SMSes? Can the employees of telecommunications operators see the payment transaction/account balance stated in an SMS?

No, they cannot. The employees of telecommunications operators do not have the right to view any SMS content.

Loss of phone – If I lose my phone, what should I do? Can the finder of the phone see my account transactions (and account balance) in the SMSes?

Contact our customer service and quit the OP Account SMS service. We recommend that you always use the phone’s lock code (PIN code) which prevents outsiders from accessing the SMSes.

Replacing a phone – What happens to the OP Account SMS service when I replace my phone?

The service is tied to a phone number so replacing the device will not affect the service. If your phone number remains the same, you will receive the SMSes also on your new device. If you are also changing your phone number, contact your bank immediately.

Before giving away your phone (for example, to a mobile phone vendor if you are exchanging your phone), make sure that you have removed all your data and SMSes from the phone.

Phone turned off – Why did I not receive SMSes about my account and card transactions when I turned my phone on again?

If you have turned off your phone or the phone’s battery is out of charge, the SMSes will be re-sent for three days. After this, the SMSes will no longer be sent.

Changing a phone number – I changed my phone number and stopped receiving SMSes about my account transactions. What should I do?

Contact our customer service and let us know your new phone number for the OP Account SMS service.

Balance information missing – Why is balance information not included in the SMS even though I have agreed on it with the bank?

Balance information is located at the bottom of the message. Open the SMS so that you can see balance information. Balance information should not be visible on a locked screen. If balance is not shown, you can agree on its inclusion in the SMS with our customer service.

Service activation – How can I start using OP Account SMS?

To use OP Account SMS, you will need to sign a service agreement. To do so, call our customer service or visit an OP cooperative bank branch.

Did not receive an SMS – I just made a card payment but did not receive an SMS. What went wrong?

Not receiving an SMS does not automatically mean that the payment was not debited from the account. In situations where the payment is not verified immediately, the amount is debited and the SMS sent with a delay. This could occur in public transport, for instance. Sometimes SMSes can be delayed for some other reason. Check that your phone is connected to a network so that it can receive SMSes.

Arriving time of SMSes – I receive SMSes about my payment transactions during 8.00–22.00. Can this be changed?

The sending schedule of SMSes cannot be changed, but on some mobile phones incoming SMSes can be muted for a selected time period.

Replying to an SMS – Can I reply to an SMS I have received or call the sender’s number to, say, ask about a suspicious transaction?

You cannot reply to the SMSes received through the OP Account SMS service. The SMSes are sent from a technical number that cannot receive SMSes or calls. The SMSes sent by the OP Account SMS service do not include links or phone numbers. If you receive an SMS including a link, do not open that. Do not call the phone number. These are indications of a phishing SMS. In the event of such an SMS, always contact our customer service.

SMS charge – Will the receiving of the SMSes cost me something?

The monthly charge of OP Account SMS includes the SMS sending costs. Receiving the SMSes is free of charge in Finland.

SMS content – Can an outsider see my account balance? What is shown on the phone’s locked screen when an SMS arrives?

How an SMS is shown depends on the model of the phone. Some mobile phones allow selecting how SMS content is shown on the screen when the phone is locked. In any case, the content of an SMS is compiled so that balance information is located at the bottom of the message and should not be visible on a locked screen. You can also subscribe to the SMSes without balance information if you like.

Bank statement – Will I still receive a bank statement by post to home if I use the OP Account SMS service?

You will continue to receive one bank statement per each current account per month free of charge if you are not using our digital services.

OP Account SMS complements the information you receive on a bank statement. It helps you follow account transactions between bank statements: you are no longer dependent on bank statements or visiting a bank to see the payments made from your account or the real-time balance.

Another user’s transactions – I have given access rights (and a card) to my current account to my relative. Do I get SMS notifications also of the payment/card transactions made by the relative?

You will receive an SMS about all transactions on your current account, including account and card transactions made by the other user of the account. If you wish, you can have access rights to an account or a card removed at your own OP cooperative bank.

Safety – Is it safe to use OP Account SMS?

OP Account SMS is a safe service. You can only subscribe to SMSes about transactions concerning your own account and to your own mobile phone. The recipient of SMSes cannot be identified based on the message content.

You should always protect your mobile phone and set an access code (PIN code) that makes it more difficult to use the phone if it is stolen.

Trip abroad – Will I receive SMSes about my account transactions also abroad? Will the SMSes cost me something if I am using a foreign operator’s network?

You will receive the SMSes also abroad if you have allowed the receiving of SMSes abroad (in the roaming settings). In some cases, foreign operators may apply restrictions that prevent the transmission of SMSes to your mobile phone. Check the cost of receiving SMSes with your own operator.

Wrong amount – I received an SMS about a payment transaction and noticed that the amount is wrong. What should I do?

If the payee is correct, contact the payee and agree with the payee on how to solve the matter. If the amount was incorrect, you can agree on its refunding or crediting with the payee. If you do not recognise the payee, you can call our customer service and ask for the payment to be investigated (subject to charge).
