In partnership with associations in Uusimaa, OP Uusimaa offers summer jobs for 500 young people – OP supports over 2,500 summer jobs for young people nationwide

OP Uusimaa is offering summer jobs to 500 young people aged 15 to 17 in 185 associations operating in Uusimaa next summer. The support for employing a single young person is 500 euros. The summer jobs offered by local associations will be published on the OP Uusimaa page on 4 March 2024, and young people can apply for summer jobs in the Summer Jobs Paid for by OP campaign directly from the associations by 31 March 2024.

Thanks to the campaign, summer jobs will be available in 185 associations in 18 different municipalities across the OP Uusimaa area. This includes sporting, youth and cultural associations, and the positions on offer may include working as a camp or sports instructor, social media reporter, or at a café.

For many people aged 15–17, the summer job attained through the campaign is their first experience of working life.

“Positive experiences received from the first work place are very important for young people. In addition to important summer job experience, young people learn how to manage their own finances by receiving their first salary from their summer job,” says OP Uusimaa Marketing and Communications Director Hanna Korhonen.

Last year, 500 young people got summer jobs in 179 associations operating in Uusimaa through OP Uusimaa's Summer jobs paid for by OP campaign. For 39 per cent of these, this was their first job.

According to the feedback survey, the young people’s summer job experiences were very positive: 95% felt that they had learned something new, 75% felt that they were doing important and influential work, and 19% found a new job thanks to their summer job.

Associations use the donations by OP cooperative banks to hire young people aged 15 to 17 for two-week summer jobs. The application period for the summer jobs is from 4 until 31 March 2024. The young people apply for the summer jobs by directly contacting an association, and the association is responsible for all employer obligations related to the job. When an association hires a young person, OP pays two weeks’ wages (EUR 500) to the association.

In the Summer Jobs Paid for by OP campaign, OP cooperative banks across Finland are donating approximately 1.26 million euros to support youth summer employment by non-profit associations. At the same time, OP supports non-profit organisations with its donations.
