Tip us off on innovations in financial literary education! OP and HundrED are on the search for methods to improve financial literacy

OP and HundrED continue the discussion on money with a search for innovations in financial literacy education. Ideas and teaching methods that promote financial literacy are pooled in a knowledge bank for use and distribution in Finland and worldwide. The search for innovations is on until the end of September and open for everyone.

The financial literacy of Finns is a growing concern. In particular, the ability of children and young people to understand and use money has raised debate, both in Finland and internationally. Conventional use of money has declined as cards and mobile payments have become more popular. At the same time, the prevalence of various financial problems has increased. On the other hand, young people are skilled at using digital applications as tools in managing their personal finances.

Together with OP, HundrED Spotlight is on the search until the end of September for the best innovations in financial literacy education in Finland and worldwide. The aim of Spotlight is to identify the current methods for learning financial literacy and explore how financial literacy could be taught in the future. All financial literacy innovations are welcome, and the focus is particularly on practical and solution-oriented modes of operation that allow young people to learn financial literacy. The goal is to identify practical, scalable and pedagogically feasible solutions that support financial literacy education.

Tip us off on an idea or innovation online at: www.hundred.org/taloustaidot. By sending a tip, you will also take part in a prize draw of three experience gift cards, value 100 euros. HundrED and OP will announce the best ideas at the end of 2019. The innovations in financial literacy education will be made available to everyone.

In 2018, OP taught financial literacy to some 42,000 children and young people. A key part of our work in improving financial literacy is to visit schools. OP cooperative banks also invite children and young people for visitations. Our cooperation with our partners also plays an important role. In addition to HundrED, OP promotes financial literacy together with the Association for Teachers of History and Social Studies in Finland (HYOL), Junior Achievement Finland, Economy and Youth TAT, Yrityskylä and the Helsinki Deaconess Institute’s personal finance skills project.
