OmaKamu activities aim to promote the wellbeing of children and youth proactively and on a long-term basis. We train responsible adult volunteers as friends for children and youth. About 160 children in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area, Lahti and Hämeenlinna currently receive the long-term support of an adult friend. However, there are 130 children in the Helsinki area alone still waiting for an adult friend.
In addition to supporting OmaKamu activities financially, Pohjola Insurance encourages its employees to volunteer, organises events and promotes the visibility of the activities in cooperation with Omakamu ry.
“We’re happy to start our cooperation with Pohjola Insurance with the goal of establishing a long-term partnership. Through this cooperation, OmaKamu has more opportunities to find long-term support for children in need of it. The positive effects this will have on the lives of both children and adults could be far-reaching,” says Pekka Puukko, Executive Manager of OmaKamu ry.
“We want to promote the wellbeing of children and youth. The current state of world affairs, in particular, is making many young people feel insecure, which means the chance for long-term friendship with a reliable adult is of vital importance,” emphasises Nella Korhonen, Head of ESG at Pohjola Insurance.
“I believe that the interest in providing security for families with children is shared. It is up to all of us adults to promote the wellbeing of children,” continues Puukko.

OmaKamu is a politically independent and secular organisation founded in 2013 that organises voluntary adult friend activities for children and youth. We train adult volunteers as friends for children and youth who need more responsible adults to support them on a long-term basis.
In addition to the Helsinki Metropolitan Area, OmaKamu currently operates in Hämeenlinna and Lahti. OmaKamu activities also started in Tampere in 2022. Through our activities, about 160 children enjoy the long-term support of a responsible adult friend.
