Pohjola Insurance to hold balcony workouts for seniors this spring

During the coronavirus lockdown, many have raised concerns over senior citizens’ wellbeing, as opportunities for physical exercise may be very limited. Good muscle strength is important for seniors to help prevent injuries from falls, for example. Muscles need daily exercise, but even a brief workout is enough to maintain physical fitness.

This spring, Pohjola Insurance teams up with Pohjola Hospital’s sports club partners to hold Sporttivartti balcony workouts for seniors in five cities around the country. The first workout was held in Tampere on May Day eve, with Turku following suit on 6 May 2020.

The next Sporttivartti took place in Oulu in the courtyard of Oulun Palvelusäätiö’s activity centre for seniors in the city centre on 14 May 2020. On the same day, outdoor workouts were also held in Kuopio in the Mäntylä, Lepola and Puijonlaakso service homes. The tour will culminate in Helsinki with a Sporttivartti workout held outside the Saga service home in Munkkiniemi during the week beginning 18 May.

The aim of the events is to offer entertainment and exercise for seniors. They also offer with means to support our sports club partners around the country. Sports clubs play an essential role in promoting public health and physical fitness, and we want to show our support to the clubs during difficult times.
