Features – What’s the difference between debit and credit payments?

Debit payments are debited from a bank account. Credit payments are debited from a credit account. You’ll receive a bill for your credit payments once a month. Once you’ve received the bill, you can take advantage of either the interest- and cost-free payment term and pay off the entire amount in full or the credit facility and pay the bill in instalments.

We have compiled frequently asked questions about credit card billing and answers to them on a separate page.

Features – What’s the difference between offline and online cards?

All OP cards are offline cards, except for OP Basic (and OP Electron), which is an online card. Whenever you pay with an OP Basic card (and OP Electron), the payment reader will contact your bank to check that there is money in your account. If the payment reader can’t connect to the bank, it won’t be able to check your account and won’t accept the card payment. For this reason, an online card doesn’t always work on trains, ships, aeroplanes or, for example, at ATMs. Offline cards work in such cases. Mobile payments using services such as Apple Pay and Google Pay work in the same locations as the card added to the payment service. OP mobile does not send notifications about offline card transactions – situations in which a payment reader doesn’t contact the bank.

Features – What does the Product Protection Insurance included in the card cover?

Product Protection Insurance is included in an owner-customer’s credit card. It’s automatically included in the following cards held by owner-customers: OP Classic, OP Gold, OP Platinum and OP Duo.

Product Protection Insurance protects credit and debit purchases made with an owner-customer credit card against breakage or theft. OP Gold, OP Platinum and OP Duo card covers the protection from the purchase date, OP Classic cards for six months of the purchase. For purchases made before 1 November 2021, the protection is valid for 180 days.

Paying with the card – What is the card’s CVC security code and where can I find it?

On OP’s combination cards, the credit card number is on the front of the card.

A credit card’s security code, the three-digit CVC number, is next to the signature field on the back of the card.

A debit card’s number is on the back of the card. Its three-digit CVC security code is right next to the card number.

The security code may also be called CVV.

Paying with the card – With which cards can I shop online?

It’s advisable to pay online purchases with a credit card. You’ll need an OP user ID and Mobile key to confirm payments.

If you have the K-Plussa Maksuaika card, you’ll only need Mobile key to confirm payments. You can start using Mobile key if you have any bank’s user identifiers.

Paying with the card – With which cards can I pay abroad?

You can use all OP payment cards to make payments abroad. In some countries, card payment is still rare and cash is used more commonly.

Mobile payment – What is Apple Pay?

Apple Pay is a mobile payment service provided by Apple. You can add your OP’s Visa card to Apple Wallet to pay with Apple Pay in stores, online and in apps with just your Apple device. Read the FAQ about Apple Pay

Mobile payment – What is Google Pay?

Google Pay is a mobile payment app with which you can pay easily using an Android device or smartwatch in stores, on websites and apps. You can also pay with a smartwatch running on Wear OS. When you pay, you don’t need your card or its details, because the payment is made with your device. Read the FAQ about Google Pay

Credit – Can I pay a bill with credit or transfer credit to my account?

You can’t pay bills directly with a credit card or with credit. If you like, you can transfer credit to your bank account and then pay the bill from your account.

Card security – My card is lost or stolen. What should I do?

If your credit or debit card is lost or stolen, call OP Deactivation Service immediately on 0100 0555, or +358 100 0555 if you call from abroad. The service is open 24/7. When you call the Deactivation Service, you don’t need your card’s number; your personal ID code is all you need. 1. Select the credit card or payment card best suited to your needs
  2. Fill in the application directly at op.fi or call our our customer service for cards

If your card application is rejected, contact our Customer Service.

When applying for a new card, your old card’s credit limit may affect the credit limit granted to the new card. You can raise the new card’s credit limit after you’ve started to use the card and cancelled the old card.

Changes to the card – How do I change the card’s background colour?

You can anytime change the background colour of your OP Classic, OP Debit or OP Basic. If you want us to deliver a card with a new design right away, we will charge a fee based on our list of service charges and fees.

If you want the design to be changed only when your card expires, the change is free of charge. You can find the last month and year of validity on the front of your card, in the format mm/yy.

Remember to order the new background colour at least three months before your card expires.

Changes to the card – How do I add K-Plussa to my card?

You can add the Plussa feature free of charge to OP Classic, OP Gold, OP Platinum, OP Debit, OP Basic and OP Duo payment cards on the op.fi service or OP-mobile. In practice, this means that you’ll be sent a new card that replaces your current card. Do as follows:

  1. Log into op.fi and and select Omat kortit (My cards). If you use OP-mobile, you’ll find your cards under Money.
  2. Select the card to which you want to add the Plussa feature.
  3. Open card settings and select Liitä K-Plussa (Add K-Plussa). Settings on OP-mobile can be found at the top of the settings symbol.
  4. Add your personal K-Plussa number. When you choose to the card delivery to your home, it is the quickest way to get the card.
  5. You’ll get the new card with the Plussa feature by post within 1–2 weeks. Your card’s PIN will remain the same.

Changes to the card – Are card details updated automatically to streaming services?

All payment cards are linked to either the Visa or Mastercard service which update card details automatically to Netflix, Spotify, Google, iTunes and others.

This automatic update makes life easier and ensures a seamless continuation of services while an expiring or a damaged card is being replaced, for example.

Many service providers are already using automatic update, and more are joining in constantly.

Cancelling a card – How do I cancel an unnecessary card?

If your new card has the same card number and PIN as your previous card or your card has been replaced because of a lost or stolen card, you don’t have to separately cancel your old card. You only need to destroy the old card by cutting it into pieces so that the chip and magnetic stripe are destroyed.

If, however, you have switched your card to another OP card, say, an OP Electron card to an OP Debit card or an OP Classic card to an OP Gold card, you can cancel your old card if you like so that you won’t have to pay service charges for two cards. When you’ve received the new card and seen that it works, you can cancel the old card.

How to cancel a card:

  • On OP-mobile: Select the card – Settings – Cancel card
  • If you don’t have OP-mobile, you can also cancel a card by logging into the op.fi service and opening the chat (in Finnish). In the chat, let us know that you want to cancel a card and then follow the instructions. To cancel a card, you’ll only need the last four digits of the card to be cancelled.

If you have unintentionally paid too much to your credit card’s credit account, meaning that the account is in credit, transfer it from the credit account to your bank account before cancelling the card. Transfers are subject to a charge in accordance with the list of charges and fees.

After cancelling the card, destroy it by cutting it carefully into pieces so that the chip and magnetic stripe are destroyed.
