Purchase Protection Insurance for purchases paid for with credit

It’s worth using the card’s credit feature to pay for items such as travel, flights and online purchases. Products and services bought with credit are covered by Purchase Protection Insurance in accordance with the Consumer Protection Act. You will be refunded if the product you ordered is faulty or lost in transit, or the vendor goes bankrupt.

You can pay off the entire credit bill on the first due date to avoid extra charges and interest for using credit, while still benefiting from purchase protection.

Are you an owner-customer? If so, you also get Product Protection Insurance providing cover for six months

If you are an owner-customer, your card includes Product Protection Insurance. The insurance provides six months of cover for products bought with the card’s debit or credit feature. You will be refunded if the product you purchased breaks or is stolen within six months from the time of purchase.

The deductible is only 75 euros, regardless of the product price, and the maximum compensation per item is 2,000 euros. So, there’s no need to buy separate insurance for new items, such as phones, if you pay with the Gold card.

OP-Visa Gold card: price

Home loan customer’s special price – 6 months without a monthly charge

During the six-month benefit period for OP’s home loan customers, you won’t be charged for the Gold package or the daily services. The monthly account service charge of 3.50 euros is charged if the card includes debt with interest. If you pay off the card-based credit in full during the interest-free period, no account service charge will be charged.

This price benefit is valid if you make a Gold card agreement by 31 December 2021.
 

What happens after the charge-free period?

Your OP-Visa Gold card will be valid as normal after the period of six charge-free months, and you will start paying the regular monthly charge as per the list of service charges and fees. If you are an owner-customer and have earned OP bonuses, the charges will be debited from your OP bonuses. 

You will not be separately notified when the charge-free period ends. If you wish, you can cancel the OP-Visa Gold card on OP-mobile or by contacting our customer service.
 

Price of Gold package as part of daily banking services

If you are an owner-customer, the Gold package costs 8.00 euros a month as part of daily banking services. This includes the OP-Visa Gold package (i.e. monthly card charge of 2.95 euros and supplementary services), a current account and OP’s online service. If you have earned OP bonuses, the charges will be debited from your OP bonuses.

If you are not an owner-customer, the Gold package costs 12.75 euros a month as part of daily banking services. This includes the OP-Visa Gold package (i.e. monthly card charge of 2.95 euros and supplementary services), a current account and OP’s online service. 
 

Price of Gold package without daily banking services

Without daily services, an OP-Visa Gold package costs 7.75 euros per month. This includes the monthly card charge of 2.95 euros, plus supplementary services.
 

Cost of credit

If you pay with credit and interest is charged, the interest rate is the 3-month Euribor + 8.95%, plus a monthly account service charge of €3.50.

The effective interest rate calculated for used credit of 2,000 euros is 15.07% (6/21). This calculation is based on the assumption that the card’s monthly charge is 2.95 euros and the monthly account service charge 3.50 euros, that the credit interest rate, fees and charges remain constant throughout the credit period, and that the credit is repaid in 12 identical monthly instalments. The estimated total amount payable would be 2,156.15 euros.

OP-Visa Gold credit card includes a travel insurance for you and your family. It provides cover against personal injury and property damage while travelling.

The insurance covers cardholders that are under 91-year-old private individuals living in Finland. The insurance also covers a spouse or common-law spouse living in the same household with the cardholder as well as the cardholder’s children under 20 years of age travelling with the cardholder. 

Travel insurance is valid abroad when 75 % of travel costs (transport and accommodation) are paid with the OP-Visa Gold credit card. On domestic journeys, the insurance is valid when the credit feature of OP-Visa Gold is used to pay either pre-booked accommodation (at least 2 nights) or pre-booked transport (public transport or rental car, provided that the travelled distance is at least 50 km from the home, summer house or place of work).

Travel insurance covers, for example, the following situations:

  • Treatment expenses caused by travel illness or travel accident during the journey abroad as well as repatriation in case of such illness or accident.
  • 24/7 Travel Emergency Service during the journey.
  • Damage to or theft of luggage.
  • Cancellation or interruption of journey.
  • Rental car excess reduction of up to EUR 1,000 (also the rental car must be paid with OP-Visa Gold credit). This is how you can, for example, avoid the high fees charged by car rental companies for reducing the excess. 

  • Compensation for liability losses caused to third parties abroad.

In the lounge, in addition to refreshments and restaurant services you will have at your disposal Wi-Fi, free newspapers and magazines, option to work in comfortable and quiet premises or conference rooms, entertainment and possibility of showering or resting. Keep your OP-Visa Gold with you when travelling because it gives you access to lounges. You won’t be admitted to lounges without either of those. LoungeKey membership is included in your OP-Visa Gold card but entry is subject to a separate charge of 28 euros per person. You can bring one or several travel companions into the lounge. The lounge entry fees for all of your travel companions will always be charged to your OP-Visa Gold’s credit facility afterwards.

If a problem occurs in a good or service bought with the card’s credit feature, you can claim a refund from the credit card company. You can do so in cases of non-delivery or disappearance of goods in transit, a fault in the product which the company refuses to rectify, or if the merchant goes bankrupt. 

You will also be protected if your airline or tour operator goes bankrupt. In addition, you can request a refund from the credit card company if an airline or tour operator cancels a journey but does not compensate you for it.

Purchase Protection Insurance is provided in accordance with the Consumer Protection Act. If the merchant is in breach of contract and you paid for a good or service by credit, you can present a claim to the credit card company as well as the merchant. The abovementioned situations are cases of breach of contract.

How to claim from a credit card company

If you are our owner-customer, your OP-Visa card will automatically include the new Product Protection Insurance.

Product Protection Insurance Covers card purchases with OP-Visa’s credit and debit facilities

Your purchases are insured regardless of whether you pay for them with the card’s credit or debit facility.

Coverage from blunders for 180 days (from 1.11.2021 365 days with OP-Visa Gold and OP-Visa Platinum cards)

Your card purchases are covered for six months from the time of purchase in Finland, abroad and in online stores.

Free-of-charge insurance only for owner-customers

Product Protection Insurance is only included in the OP-Visa cards held by OP cooperative bank’s owner-customers and in joint cards linked to them.

Product Protection Insurance protects your card purchases from blunders

Sometimes all sorts of things happen, the phone slips from your hand or coffee spills on your laptop. Luckily, Product Protection Insurance covers card purchases made with OP-Visa from blunders. You can enjoy this benefit for owner-customers by actively purchasing with your OP-Visa card.

Product Protection Insurance is a free insurance for owner-customers who have an OP-Visa Credit/Debit combination card, OP-Visa Gold, OP-Visa Platinum, or an OP-Mastercard. Joint holders of any of these cards are also entitled to the benefit, if the principal card-holder is an owner-customer. The insurance cannot be bought separately.

Coverage for your purchases, also those made abroad or online

Product Protection Insurance covers your purchases paid with OP-Visa’s credit and debit facilities in Finland, abroad and in online stores. The insurance covers purchases that conform to the terms and conditions for 180 days (from 1.11.2021 365 days with OP-Visa Gold and OP-Visa Platinum) from the time when the card-holder acquires the item.

Product Protection Insurance may provide cover, for example, if your brand-new spectacles get broken, your new tablet falls to the floor or ground and gets broken or the screen of your mobile phone is damaged. The deductible is EUR 75, and up to EUR 2,000 is compensated for an individual item.

Insurance benefit for owner-customers

By becoming our owner-customer you are entitled, in addition to the Product Protection Insurance, to, for example, daily banking services at a lower cost and you earn value-for-money OP bonuses which offset banking service charges and insurance premiums. You can also buy, sell and switch many of our funds with no charges.

The card comes with Identity Theft Protection service that helps prevent, detect and limit identity fraud. You will get personal service from experienced specialists who are there for you when you need help. 

In identity theft, someone, maybe even a person closely associated with you, obtains your personal data and exploits it for financial gain, seeking to commit fraud or other criminal acts, such as applying for a loan, without your permission. This can happen to anyone and anytime. Your data can also fall into the wrong hands due to a data leak or a lost or stolen passport or driving licence. It is quite possible that the fraudster raises loans, buys mobile phone subscriptions, orders items or applies for the registration of title to your property. While the fraudster keeps everything of value, you will be left with the obligations and demands for payment. Falling victim to identity theft is unpleasant, time-consuming and may lead to financial losses.

Identity Theft Protection specialists help you take preventive measures and provide you with instructions on how to minimise the risk of falling victim to fraud. You can use the Concierge service to order a delivery of flowers to a friend in Finland or abroad, for example. The Concierge can also help you find and deliver birthday gifts to a spouse or godchild, for example, or book a rental holiday home for you for Midsummer or a trip to Lapland in the autumn. With Concierge you can conveniently book tickets to concerts, musicals and sports events and make dinner reservations and guest list reservations at restaurants and night clubs in the Nordic countries. Pay securely online Visa Secure (formerly Verified by Visa)

Visa Secure (previously Verified by Visa) is a service that enhances online payment security. Both the merchant and buyer are reliably authenticated on the service. To see whether a webshop uses this service, look for the Visa Secure logo.

Enable mobile payments Apple Pay and Pivo

Add your card to Apple Pay or Pivo. These payment apps enable you to pay in stores and online with just your smartphone. You don’t need your card or card details at the time of payment.

Paying with Apple Pay or Pivo at a store is contactless, you just take your smartphone near the reader. You can also pay for purchases of over 50 euros.
